Four steps to success

Hi Christoggers!

When I was a child, I had a few ideas as to which career to pursue. It is however interesting to note, that my heart-felt interests never came on the list of the professions I could choose from. I suppose not having a role model in this field meant that I had no motivation either.

Years later, after coming to Christ, I began hearing about purpose and destiny. I had thought that destiny was the same as what you decided to do. My dissatisfaction with the career I had chosen and the depth of nonfulfillment got me praying. When you work to live or when going to work becomes an ordeal, that is a signal that you are not where the destiny-maker designed for you to be!

Job-dissatisfaction is nothing new; we have been jobbing while we are expected to be living - an abundant and fulfilled life! I belong to the dissatisfied; fear of being too old to 'start again' and possibly failing were my mountains of hindrance. The truth is, I would not be starting over again as I never really got started in the area God destined for me! The second problem was failure, a word described mainly as the lack of success. I prefer another meaning which I believe is more accurate: failure is nonperformance of something required, or expected. In other words, when I do not achieve what God requires of me or expects of me, I have failed. Thank God for his Word that guarantees my success, yes, guarantees my success and yours, when we do things his way.

The Word of God reveals the four steps to success:

1) Proverbs 16:1 tells us that: The plans of the mind and orderly thinking belong to man, but from the Lord comes the [wise] answer of the tongue (Amplified Bible). So, God already knows that our minds are full of ideas and reasonings to support them. Here is what I call 'Life's Crossroads' - being overwhelmed by choices and standing at the crossroads, not knowing which way to go. The help you need comes from the Lord when you ask, "Which way, Lord?" If for example, you are interested in science, archaeology and business studies and don't know which way to turn, you are at Life's Crossroads. Ask and you shall receive direction.

2) Now you are going in the right direction and your desire is for medicine. You want to specialise as a surgeon and run your own clinic. The next step is Proverbs 16:3 - Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and] so shall your plans be established and succeed. (Amplified Bible)

This is the most difficult stage because patience is required as God begins to 're-organize' your ideas and filter out what HE does not want. If you are totally yielded to him, any debris you try to hold unto will make you feel uneasy.

3) This stage is the re-planning of your ideas. You now have a better understanding of how God wants you to use your gift and so you need to plan or rather, re-plan accordingly. Proverbs 16:9 says that 'a man’s mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps and makes them sure.' (Amplified Bible)
Your guarantee of success is only possible when the Lord directs your steps. Why? He knows the route you have to take to ensure that you reach your destination. Every other person you know may be going to the same place but each one has a pre-designed route to stay on. So, no short cuts please! No fast routes or familiar routes. You are not being guided by a car navigator! Stay on your God-designed course and YOU WILL SUCCEED.

4) Last but not least, there is a purpose to all of the above because God does nothing without a purpose. Proverbs 19:21 (Amplified Bible), tells us that 'Many plans are in a man’s mind, but it is the Lord’s purpose for him that will stand.'  If you are in it for money or fame, you're in for a surprise. All that comes afterwards, as a reward of your obedience to God's will. First the work, then the pleasure!  'The Message Bible' tells us in Ephesians 3:20: God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams!

In summary: tell God your plans and carry them out as he instructs. The rest is up to God; he will guide and make you successful!
PRAYER: Dear Lord, you hold the key to my life. I thank-you for every door of favour you open to guarantee my suuccess in life.
Till next week, keep on walking in Christ.
